This is the complete north: a full NC500 loop with an island layer that isn’t treated as a rushed add-on.
The NC500 is the backbone of the route, split into west, far north, and east stages—so you get the best coastline and detours without a single long push. The island chapter is then a deliberate pace shift, with fewer moving parts and stays chosen for location.
Overall, it keeps driving days realistic and avoids squeezing islands in without time to enjoy them.

Day 1–2: Inverness (arrival + Highland reset)
Arrive and settle with an easy first day. Use Inverness as a clean start point before the longer coastal chapters begin.
Day 3–4: NC500 West (coast + mountains, paced)
Head west for the first big scenery stretch. Two nights here keeps it from becoming a drive-through and leaves room for short walks and viewpoint stops.
Day 5–6: NC500 North (far north, done slowly)
Continue through the far north with a realistic plan: fewer stops, better ones. Two nights gives weather flexibility and avoids forced long days.
Day 7–8: NC500 East (softer coast, easier rhythm)
A calmer section of the loop: castle-country pacing, gentler roads, and a more relaxed drive back toward Inverness.
Day 9: Inverness (reset + reposition)
A deliberate reset night to break up the loop and set up the island chapter cleanly—so the second half of the trip feels fresh.
Day 10–11: Isle of Skye (base-led, no repetition)
Two nights gives you a full Skye day plus an arrival/departure day that still includes quality stops. Planned around a strong base to reduce backtracking.
Day 12–13: Outer Hebrides (Lewis & Harris, properly spaced)
A proper island chapter with time for both beaches and history. Planned flexibly around weather and ferry timing, without cramming.
Day 14: Return to Inverness (departure)
A clean final travel day with sensible timing for flights or onward travel. Final-night positioning can adjust depending on departure time.
